The LA Adventure, Pt 1
Brace yourself. I've got a slightly different post in store today. Nope, I'm not writing about vegetables. The good ole roast n' toast can wait. Don't worry, we'll be back to normal beezy programming in a future post. Today I'm recounting the most FAB long weekend-vaca I've taken in a hot minute. Are you ready? Let's do it. PART ONE!
For context, my friend Laura [beep, beep] JEEP, moved to LA this summer. Werk girl. My other gal pal Darcy [ahem, Dusty J] had never been to LA, nor had I, so ... connect the dots. A trip was in store.
We booked our flights months ago. And then, BAM, the highly anticipated LA adventure just crept up on us! We had lists and lists of things to do, places to visit, and most importantly - we were eager to hang with our lil Jeepy in her new city. Giddy up.
Alright, let's get to recappin'. Where do I even begin?! The weekend was 101% a blllassst. We accomplished SO many things, I'm exhasuted just thinking about it.
Thursday morning. Our flight departed at 9:15am. I'm an airport freak [for lack of better words]. So naturally I woke up at the crack of dawn and got to the airport 2 hours early.
Dusty J rolls up to the gate as we're boarding, Starbucks in hand and cool as a cucumber. You're my airport goals. We boarded. No biggie. I sat next to the cutest elderly couple who came prepared with mini bags of trail mix snackies. Shortly before we took off, they whipped out these blow up neck pillows and the jealousy set in. Darcy also informed me that she brought one. What's the deal? Beezy b missed the memo. Thank goodness I remembered to download my Spotify Time Capsule playlist before I lost WiFi. *NSYNC, Bspears, David Banner, MARIAH, D4L's Laffy Taffy??.... on repeat, duh. [who am I?! ... judge me].
Before I knew it, we were up in the air. Bye bye, Chi.
Poof. 4 hours later we were magically transported to sunny LA LA land. We ubered to Jeep's apt and picked up the keys from her property manager because she was busy werkin' away. We let ourselves into her CUTE apt, got settled, snooped [hehe, just jokes] and prepped for a mini day of Dusty J and BK exploring.
Thursday afternoon. We had lunch at this cute lil cafe down the street - Twist. It was adorbs - casual and fab food. We had salads and iced coffees...and sneaky samples of the most delicious chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies.
We then ventured out to explore the Tar Pits, LACMA, a cute farmers market by The Grove [peep the pumpkin spice ice cream below - found at one of the vendors in the market!], and eventually the Grove for more bee bop shopping - hello Zara, Anthro, AND Nordys.
Jeep then picked us up on her way home from work and we scooted back to her apt to regroup for the night's activities.
Thursday night. For dinner we were in the mood for Mexican food so we went to this restaurant called Mercado. We shared plates of guac, roasted mexi-corn, and crispy fish tacos... and MARGS, margs were sipped. Despite us being slightly snoozy from the travel + day exploring + time change, we powered on. OH boy and did we power on. We ended up at a bar called Bar10 in West Hollywood. The drinks were strong and drag queens were fierce. Day 1 - success. Night tight.
Friday morning. We woke up feeling good. Hi, LA. What's on the agenda this morning? Y7 hip hop yoga. Girl, get it.
This was one thing on our bucket list of LA must-dos. We purchased our tickets a week before our departure to ensure we'd snag two spots in the 9AM class and be ready to namastizzle.
[sidenote] this where I discovered: "issa vibe". Apparently I live under a rock because this is a pretty well known song. Who knew? Dusty J kept referencing it, and I was under the impression that it was just a Y7 thing. Like it kinda had that hip hop, chill, yoga vibe so of course they'd put it on a sign outside the studio. Dusty J gave me the eye roll. I'm sorry lil lady, I'll try harder next time ;) Nonetheless, it became my favorite way to discribe any and everything about LA. Just, you know, I'm in LA - issa vibe.
The verdict? Class was good, but I can't give it a gold star. Our teacher lead us through three different flows. For each flow, we'd take a round to learn it, then we'd all do it together slow as a class and afterwards, we were given time to just jam to the music and flow to our own breath.
Lots of sweat. I like that. BUT, I'm not an uber crazy, well practiced yogi so the time where we were left to do our own thing felt slightly uncomfortable. I couldn't remember the sequence! To each their own! I'd be curious to get a real yogi gal's perspective. I'm more of a hiit lady, so for the price [studio $$$ struggz] I'd rather take a class like Barry's. Nonetheless, I'm happy that we went and got a good sweat sesh in. Well needed.
We left the studio and DUG IN on some smoothie bowls at backyard bowls. #nom.
Can you just look at those bowls?! Dusty J and I waited a good 20 minutes for our order. Slow mo. But, let me tell you, it was WELL worth it. I had the dragon bowl [which was bright pink, due to the dragon fruit - cute n' jazzy.] and Darcy had the coco-cado bowl [not as cute, but still jazzy].
Friday afternoon. Back to Jeep's apt we went to get set for the rest of the day. Jeeps was working until 2PM so it was our plan to meet her after work, explore downtown and bop on over to a happy hour. A group of Jeep's coworkers were set on having drinks at a nearby rooftop bar called Broken Shaker. The sun was shining, the weather was GORG, and we were ready for some afternoon drinkies. Cheers.
We stayed on the rooftop for a drink and chatted with her coworkers. We then headed to another bar down the street. We continued to catch up, chit chat, and get our snack on. Next up ... Clifton's.
Friday night. We walk into Clifton's. The lights are dim, it's not crowded at all. We were told to head upstairs to a "secret" tiki lounge, only accessible by finding this door, which was disguised to look like a mirror. LA, why you gotta be so sneaky?! It took us a minute, but we found it. POW. Tiki town here we come. Initially we thought it was hokey. It felt like we were at the Chicago Rain Forest cafe. Tourist shenanigans, you know? Giggles. But oh no, no. Once we got our tiki drink on, it was fun, it was FAB.
This happened... issa vibe, right?! [... from dusty j's snap story ;)]
After a few hours, we emerged from tiki town and re-entered the main bar on the ground level. It was BUMPIN'. A much different scene than when we first arrived.
This is us... when we pose for pics, in public, lookin' cute, lookin' normal.
Then, this is us [about 15 min later]... when we find a photo booth and are behind closed doors. ded. just look at mean muggin' dusty j at the bottom :)
And with that, we will conclude part 1 of the LA adventure. Much, much more to come in part TWO when we hike in Topanga State Park, bop to Malibu, feast on Korean BBQ, have drinkies in a Hollywood 70's bar .... etc.! pow.
